A Believer's Year End Appraisal with Jesus: An Imaginative conversation

Jesus: Welcome to heaven. You know it is the year end. It is time for your spiritual appraisal. It is time to evaluate your spiritual walk. You know your manager speaks always to you about your KPI (Key Performance Indicator) and likewise your pastor always speak about KSLI- Key Spiritual Life Indicator. As you know this appraisal is a two way process. I like to hear from you about your KSLI and then I like to give you a feedback.
Let us begin,
Your pastor thinks you have a great spiritual life. He considers you as one of his best believer. He praises to others that you have good knowledge of bible, you pay tithe, You are able to lead all kinds of spiritual matters. It seems that your pastor feels that you have a great spiritual life.
What do you think about your spiritual life?
Believer: Jesus I really love you. As my pastor said I have a fantastic spiritual life. I pay tithe. You know many Christians go to the church only on Easter day. But I went to church on most of the Sundays. I even attended couple of care cells. I even attend some of other church activities. You know, one day I even went to church and volunteered some work.
Jesus: Oh great you feel that you did a great spiritual life.
Ok let us get into details.
Jesus: What about your personal prayer life and reading Bible, spending time.
Believer: Yes Jesus you know I prayed occasionally. Opened Bible randomly and read couple of times, especially when I was in problems.
Jesus: You know dear every day I was sitting beside your bedside in the mornings to spend little time with you. I tried to wake up you little early but you loved to sleep a lot. Do you remember what you did when you get up from the bed. You took your mobile, checked WhatsApp especially your boyfriend's message. There were many devotional messages but you never read it. Then you switched on the music. You spent lots of time in front of the mirror.
Believer: Oh Jesus you know I have hectic day every day in office. I cannot get up early. I should sleep. You know if I don’t WhatsApp, then my boyfriend will shout at me. My friends will ignore me. I cannot go to office without a proper dressing style. I have to make a style statement there.
Jesus: If you have a hectic schedule, why did you join the gym? After coming from your office late evening you directly go to gym.
Believer: Oh Jesus I should be slim and fit. If not no boys will speak to me. No dress will fit me.
Jesus: Ok what about weekend? You have two days off from your office. You don’t spend any time with me even in the weekend.
Believer: Jesus you know you created us to enjoy. I sleep a lot on weekend. Then Saturday I do some shopping. Then I hang up with friends late night. We do barbeque party. But you know I don’t drink or smoke though all my friends do it and force me. I just dance a little bit. Just to relax from my work pressure. Jesus what is wrong in that?
Jesus: Oh Problem. Yes problem is Sunday service. You know how many Sundays you missed this year because of late night parties? How many Sundays you were late this year for Sunday service because of late night hang out?
Believer: Oh Jesus come on, I could not get up early morning after all those late night parties, shopping and movies. But I watched God TV whenever I missed church. Even two Sundays I attended the prayer in the evening in our PG.
Jesus: Do you know that I placed you under that church and pastor. It is your spiritual family. How you can ignore it?
Believer: Jesus I don’t like that church. Pastor is very boring. Worship is not great. I don’t know the songs that they sing.
Jesus: How you can say that? Most of the Sundays you are late to church and miss worship section. When pastor preaches, you some times sleep or you WhatsApp or browse.
Believer: Yes I need to plan my Sunday evening. I need to catch up with friends. I have to WhatsApp. They do not understand church. Yes I browsed some of the points that pastor shared.
Jesus: Then how you can say that church is boring after doing all these?
Believer: Jesus I don’t like that Subi and Vineeth. They think they are somebody. They don’t talk to me. They even made some funny comment about me.
Jesus: you know I placed you inside the church to grow along with the other brothers and sister. You need to forgive them. You also don’t have any good relationship with your other believer. You don’t attend even a care cell.
Believer: Jesus you know I don’t have time for all these things. I cannot relate with those believers in my care cell. They are pretty old. I have enough friends outside, Jesus.
Jesus: That is not my plan for you. I want you to grow with the help of other believers inside the church.
Believer: Yes Jesus I will try it. But Pastor is also not good. He is strict. If he sees me with phone, immediately he will tell do not use phone in the church. You know he is an outdated old man. Funny guy. How he can ask me to come for all meetings? He does not know what is cooperate world. Jesus you send him to work in my office.
Jesus: (smiles to himself) What are you speaking about my appointed servant? He represents me and he says what I want to say to you.
Believer: Jesus come on, It is something between me and you. Why I need a pastor and church. It is a money making boring business.
Jesus: What are you saying? You know I washed the church with my blood and am preparing the church as my bride. I placed you inside the church where I am the head and my representatives are there to make each one to help to become like me. I am building the church. It is not just me and you.  It is all about a life you need to live according to my plan.
Believer: Then, why that pastor preach about churchless Christianity in God TV.
Jesus: Ha ha ha they are not my preachers. You know Satan placed so many bible teachers with super knowledge to deceive people and deviate people from the right path. They make foolish virgins whom I will tell I don’t know you one day. That’s why I placed you under your pastor and church to protect you from all kinds of deception.
Jesus: Let us come back to the point. I feel that your are pushing me away from your life every day but you have time for all other things. So you think I am a last priority in your everyday life.
Believer: No Jesus you know I am tired with so many things. I am under so much pressure. This world is like that.
Jesus : To manage all these things, you want to push me away from your life every day.
Believer: You know I did not intentionally do it. But it happened. Next year I will make a change.
Jesus: Wait a minute! Do you know you have taken this same decision last three years in watch night services. But you could not fulfil it. You are unfaithful to your promises to me.
Believer: Give me one more chance.

Jesus: Yes I am merciful father. I love you. I am giving you one more year to you. But remember, when I come to receive my saints, if you are not ready yet, you may miss it. Go and become perfect in me.

[1] (b) There are literary parallels for chapter 13 in Greek and Hellenistic Jewish literature. [2] (c) It is often suggested that chapter 13 interrupted the flow of Pauline discussion on the spiritual gifts [3] and this chapter used stylistic forms. [4] Consequently, scholars think that chapter 13 is out of place or it is a non-Pauline interpolation and literary critics even questioned the authorship of this chapter. [5] It is also suggested that Chapter 13 is a digression. [6] It has been recognized as an epideictic showpiece that is used to exhort Corinthians to keep love as their guiding principles of life in the community. Jewish Sects and Movements during the Intertestamental Period (New Testament Background, part-3)

The re-established Jerusalem temple was the center of the religion. Though the highest political authority was the Persians, the Jerusalem temple state held the highest authority, with no other authority surpassing that of the temple and priests. The guardians of the temple and its cult, as well as the interpreters of the law, were the priests. The priests were the wealthiest aristocrats in the land. It is concluded that the wealthiest priestly families were open to Hellenistic elements. One of the reasons for the Maccabean revolt was the Hellenization of the priests, particularly the family of the Oniads. After the revolt, the Hasmoneans were supported by priests with different theological orientations who stood against Hellenization. The priests during the time of t...

Many books written in this period in Hebrew came to light through the discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Aramaic was the colloquial and business language in Syria and Mesopotamia and was spoken in Palestine. It was developed as an administrative language in the Assyrian Empire. But after the conquest of the Persian Empire by Alexander, Aramaic continued as a second administrative language after Greek and was used as a business and colloquial language even during the Roman Empire. Aramaic was used for Jewish writings. Moreover, during the Hellenistic period, Greek became a more influential language, but Aramaic survived. Greek became prominent because of Greek colonization and the significance of Greek as a cultural language. In Pales...
