Seeking God

1. What is Seeking God?

It is single minded – focused pursuit of God. It is zealous and intensive search of God in our lives. It is habitual practice of prioritising God in our lives even though we have so many distractions in our lives. It is channelising everything in our lives to centre on God. It is a conscious human pursuit to centre their life in God.

2. Prayer is the key to seek God

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (ESV) 2 Chronicles 7:14

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (ESV) Jeremiah 29:12-13

Prayer is our dependency upon God. It is a reflection of our need of God. It is a heart to heart conversation with God. It is an intimate communion and communication with God. It is devoting your time in God’s presence in conversation with him. When we pray, we seek God.
Humbling us and repenting are prerequisites for an effective prayer. Pride and sin are two things that God hates. That’s why, we need to humble before God and repent on daily basis before him. It is really pleasing to God.

An effective prayer brings God’s healing touch and answers into our lives. An effective prayer will help us to find God in our lives – experiencing His presence, grace, love, guidance, provision and so on. When we seek Him, God will become real in our experience.

The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. (ESV) Psalms 34:10

Reflection questions: Do I have a regular prayer time? If you are struggling in your prayer time, what concrete steps that you are taking to resolve it? What do you think about effectiveness of your prayer? Is there anything that hinder your prayer?

3. Seeking Him is our priority

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (ESV) Matthew 6:33

Seeking God should be our first priority in our daily life. Disciples were worried about daily course of life. In this context, Jesus asked them to seek God first in their lives, and all the things that needed for their lives will be added to them. Seeking God must be the first priority in our lives on daily basis. Nothing should distract us from this.

Reflection questions: What is my priority in my daily life? Am I distracted from God with daily life concerns? Do I make conscious effort to seek God on a daily basis?

4. Seeking His with full our heart

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (ESV) Psalms 63:1

But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. (ESV) Deuteronomy 4:29

God likes to see that we seek Him wholeheartedly. Seeking is a reflection of our hunger and thirst for God. Our seeking should be passionate and earnest. We should be people after God’s own heart.

Reflection Questions: Do I seek God half-heartedly? What is my level of passion for God? What kind of desire I have for God?
